Hiram Bingham

Journey to Machu Picchu in 1920s Pullman splendour through the Sacred Valley

About the Train

Named after the American explorer who brought Machu Picchu to the world's attention in 1911, the Hiram Bingham is Belmond's jewel of the Peruvian highlands. Liveried in distinctive blue and gold, its carriages are furnished in the opulent style of 1920s Pullman travel — polished wooden panels, gleaming brass fittings and generous seating that invites you to settle back and watch the Andes unfold.

The outward journey from Poroy, just outside Cusco, winds alongside the rushing Urubamba River and past the terraced hillsides of the Sacred Valley with a welcome cocktail and three-course brunch served at your table. On the return, as mountain dusk deepens the colours of the valley, a four-course fine dining dinner is accompanied by a curated wine selection and the lilting rhythms of traditional Peruvian music.

The experience extends beyond the train itself: on arrival at Aguas Calientes, guests transfer by bus directly to the Machu Picchu citadel for a guided tour. Afternoon Tea at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge follows, before the return journey begins — making this a seamlessly hosted, door-to-door adventure to one of the world's great wonders.
