Orient Express La Dolce Vita

A grand return to Italy — glamour, gastronomy and hidden treasures by rail.

About the Train

Orient Express La Dolce Vita marks a triumphant return to Italy for one of the world's most storied travel brands. Born from a partnership between Arsenale S.p.A. and Orient Express of the Accor Group, in collaboration with Trenitalia and Fondazione FS Italiane, the train traverses more than 16,000 km of Italian railway — including 7,000 km of historic, non-electrified lines seldom seen by modern travellers.

Designed by the acclaimed Milanese studio Dimorestudio, the interiors pay homage to the glamour, joie de vivre and artistic fervour of 1960s Italy. Sumptuous fabrics, smoked-mirror walls, lacquered ceilings and brass finishes celebrate Italian craftsmanship at every turn. With capacity for just 62 guests across six itineraries, La Dolce Vita offers an intimate, bespoke experience through some of Europe's most captivating landscapes.

On board, award-winning Italian cuisine and regional wines are served in a beautifully appointed restaurant car, while the Bar Car invites aperitivo rituals beneath a bright lacquered ceiling. Tailored excursions at each destination allow guests to explore hidden gems — from the UNESCO World Heritage streets of Matera to the vineyards of Montalcino — before returning to the comfort of their private cabin.

Deluxe Cabins

Twelve Deluxe Cabins of 7 m² each offer sophisticated warmth with carpeted floors, wood-slat ceilings and a double bed (140 × 190 cm) that converts to a sofa by day. Suite Cabins

Eighteen Suite Cabins of 11 m² feature uplifting décor in shades of orange, terracotta and purple with brass finishes — a true master bedroom available in double or twin configuration. Each suite includes a sofa, table, two armchairs and a private bathroom, dressed in fine Dimorestudio fabrics, smoked-mirror walls and lacquered burnt-sienna ceilings.

Presidential Suite

The singular Presidential Suite (La Dolce Vita Suite) represents the pinnacle of on-board living, offering the ultimate expression of Italian luxury rail travel.

Questions About the Orient Express La Dolce Vita

Which itineraries can I actually book, and where does each one go?+
La Dolce Vita offers eight distinct journeys, most running two nights: the flagship Rome – Venice – Portofino – Rome, Rome – Venice – Siena – Rome (Venice and Tuscany), Rome – Matera – Palena – Rome (Eternal Stones of Matera), and Palermo – Taormina – Maratea – Rome along the Tyrrhenian Coast. Shorter escapes include the one-night Tastes of Tuscan Vineyards to Montalcino, the day-trip Truffle Route to Nizza Monferrato, and Sicily-focused loops between Catania, Palermo and Taormina. Our team at Palace Trains can match the right route to your dates — call 1-800-724-5120 or email travel@palacetours.com.

More in the journal →

What's the Presidential Suite, and is it worth booking for a special occasion?+
The single La Dolce Vita Suite is the train's flagship accommodation — its most spacious and lavishly appointed cabin, conceived as the pinnacle of Dimorestudio's design vision. Because there is only one on board, it's a natural choice for anniversaries, proposals or milestone celebrations where privacy and exclusivity matter most. Availability is extremely limited given there's just one per departure, so we recommend enquiring with Palace Trains as early as possible at 1-800-724-5120.

More in the journal →

How far in advance should I book, and how do I check which dates are available?+
Because La Dolce Vita carries only 62 guests and runs a limited number of departures per itinerary each season, popular routes and the Presidential Suite can sell out well ahead of travel — booking several months in advance is wise, especially for peak spring and autumn dates. Palace Trains tracks live availability across all eight itineraries and cabin categories. Call us toll-free at 1-800-724-5120 or email travel@palacetours.com and we'll confirm current dates and pricing for you.
